About Matthew
Matthew Dicks is the author of Storyworthy (2018), the book that turned his stage practice into a teachable method, followed by Someday Is Today (2022) and Stories Sell (2024). He is a record 64-time Moth StorySLAM winner and a 10-time GrandSLAM champion, which is the unusual part of his credential: he still competes at the thing he teaches.
In 2013 he co-founded Speak Up with his wife Elysha, a Hartford-based storytelling organization that produces shows across Connecticut. He is also a novelist, with Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend (2012), Twenty-one Truths About Love (2019), and The Other Mother (2020) among his titles.
He teaches storytelling and public speaking to corporations, schools, and institutions, has taught at Yale, MIT, and Harvard, and has advised companies including Amazon, Slack, and Salesforce. He has also taught elementary school in West Hartford, Connecticut since 1999, and was named the district's Teacher of the Year in 2005.
