Lynne Twist

Lynne Twist works on the belief that sits underneath most corporate behavior and is almost never named out loud: that there is not enough, and that there never will be.

She calls it the scarcity mindset, and her argument is that it is largely manufactured rather than true. It produces the reflexes a leadership team recognizes immediately once they are described, hoarding budget, protecting headcount, treating another department's win as a loss, and it persists in organizations that are objectively doing well. The alternative she teaches is sufficiency, which is not the claim that resources are unlimited but the discipline of working from what is actually there rather than from the fear of running out.

The Soul of Money, her book on the subject, has been translated into multiple languages and is the basis of the keynote. It came out of decades of global fundraising work, which is an unusual foundation for a business talk and the reason the material is concrete rather than sentimental: she has spent her career asking people for money and watching what their relationship with it actually is.

She founded the Soul of Money Institute in 2003 and co-founded the Pachamama Alliance, both in San Francisco, and has shared a stage with Oprah Winfrey, the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall and Desmond Tutu.

She is booked for purpose and values programs, philanthropy and nonprofit events, financial services audiences, and leadership groups whose problem is internal competition for resources rather than a shortage of them. Sessions run as a keynote and often as a keynote plus workshop, since the shift she is asking for is a practice rather than an idea.
