Dambisa Moyo

Dambisa Moyo is booked by leadership teams that need to understand the world their strategy is about to meet, and her authority comes from three places at once: an economist's training, a strategist's years in the markets, and a director's seat on the boards that have to act on the answer.

Born in Lusaka in 1969, she holds a doctorate in economics from Oxford, a master's in public administration from Harvard's Kennedy School, and a bachelor's degree in chemistry and an MBA from American University. She worked at the World Bank in the mid-1990s and spent 2001 to 2008 at Goldman Sachs as a research economist and strategist, which is where the habit of turning macroeconomics into a decision someone has to make was formed.

Dead Aid, published in 2009, argued that decades of development aid had entrenched the problems it was meant to solve, and it made her one of the more argued-with economists in the world; TIME named her to its 100 list that year. How the West Was Lost in 2011, Winner Take All in 2012 and Edge of Chaos in 2018 followed, each a New York Times bestseller, on the West's economic choices, China's resource strategy and why democracies were failing to deliver growth. How Boards Work, published in 2021, is the insider's account of what a board actually does and why it so often does it badly.

That last book is written from the chair. She sits on the boards of Chevron, Condé Nast, Starbucks and National Geographic, and has served on those of Barclays, Barrick Gold, SABMiller, 3M and Seagate. In November 2022 she was appointed to the House of Lords as Baroness Moyo of Knightsbridge.

She is based in London and speaks internationally, in person and virtually. The sessions suit board and executive strategy meetings, investor and financial services conferences, and any leadership audience whose plan depends on a view of the next five years, and they are frequently booked as a keynote paired with a closed session for the board or the executive team.
