Keynote and Executive Session
Jason A. Wolf has led The Beryl Institute since 2010 and did more than anyone to turn patient experience from a survey score into a defined field with a framework, a body of research and a professional community behind it.
The Institute he runs now engages more than 65,000 people across over 85 countries, and he is the founding editor of Patient Experience Journal, the peer-reviewed publication that gave the field a place to publish. He holds a PhD and is a Certified Patient Experience Professional.
His central argument is that patient experience is not a service initiative and cannot be delegated to a department. It is produced by the same conditions that produce everything else in a hospital: how teams are led, whether staff are supported, what leadership actually measures, and whether the organization treats the people delivering care as part of the experience rather than a cost against it. The Institute's framing of human experience deliberately includes the workforce, which is why his material connects a patient experience agenda to a burnout and retention agenda rather than treating them as competing priorities.
That makes him a useful booking at a moment when health systems are being asked to improve experience scores while their workforce is depleted, because the session addresses that tension directly instead of asking a tired audience to care more.
He speaks at global conferences, health system leadership summits and executive workshops, and the sessions are built to leave an organization with a way to structure the work rather than a set of service slogans.

No, and the difference is the point of the session. Satisfaction scores measure a reported reaction after the fact. Experience is what the organization actually produces through how teams are led, what leadership measures, and whether staff are supported enough to deliver care well. Treating the score as the target is what causes experience programs to stall.
Yes, deliberately. The human experience framing includes the workforce, on the argument that the conditions producing a good patient experience and the conditions retaining staff are largely the same conditions. Health systems book this when they are being asked to raise experience scores with a depleted workforce.
Health system and hospital leadership, quality and patient experience teams, clinical leaders, and boards. It works as a conference keynote and is often paired with a closed executive session where the leadership team applies the framework to their own organization.
