About Trent

Trent Shelton's story is the one about the dream that ended, which is a more useful story for most audiences than the one about the dream that came true.

He played wide receiver at Baylor, signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2007, and spent the next two seasons with the Colts, the Seattle Seahawks and Washington before the NFL was finished with him at twenty-five. The material starts there, in the period after the thing he had worked toward since childhood was over and before he had any idea what would replace it.

What replaced it was a two-minute video. In March 2009 he began recording short, unpolished talks to himself about getting back up, posted them under the name RehabTime, and found that the people watching were not football fans but anyone in the middle of their own version of the same week. RehabTime is now a nonprofit organization, and his following across platforms had passed fifty million by 2022.

His books are The Greatest You, published in 2019, and Protect Your Peace, published in 2024, and the argument running through both is that failure is only failure when a person quits, and until then it is feedback. That is a familiar line in the genre; what makes his version land is that he says it as someone who did not get the dream, rather than as someone explaining how he did.

He is booked most often for audiences that are younger or that reach him through his videos first, which gives him a rare thing for a corporate stage: an audience that already trusts him before he starts. Sessions are keynote format, and organizations tend to place him where energy and directness are the point, at kickoffs, all-hands and student events.

Booking Trent Shelton: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Trent Shelton's speaking fee?

Trent Shelton's fee is not published here and is quoted per event. It is driven by event date, location and travel, session length, and whether a meet-and-greet, book signing or student session is added to the keynote. Submit an inquiry with your date and audience size for a current quote and availability.

Is this a sports keynote?

No. The NFL career is the setup, not the subject. The material begins after it ended, in the period between losing the thing he had worked toward since childhood and finding what replaced it, which is a situation most of an audience recognizes whether or not they follow football.

Who is the right audience?

Younger audiences and anyone who has reached him through his videos, which gives him an audience that already trusts him before he starts. Organizations book him for sales kickoffs, all-hands meetings, student events and frontline workforces, where directness and energy are the point.

What does redefining failure actually mean in the session?

That failure is only failure when a person quits, and until then it is feedback. The line is familiar in the genre; the difference is that he says it as someone who did not get the dream, rather than as someone explaining how he did, which is what stops it sounding like hindsight.
